TRAVEL TO BALI – DISCOVERING INDONESIA

The Republic of Indonesia comprises more than 17,000 islands, whose great beauty you can appreciate with a trip to the Bali and Komodo National Parks. Indonesia is located between Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Travel to Bali from Madrid with one stop, you usually go through Emirates. First, you will land in Dubai or Singapore and then proceed to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar.

Some preliminary data: There are no compulsory vaccinations, it is recommended to carry travel insurance, the currency is the rupee, do not forget sun protection, mosquito repellent, and a first aid kit. Traffic is hell, so get your international driver’s license if you want to rent a motorcycle. Finally, if you have a sensitive stomach, take natural probiotics at least two months before.

TRAVEL TO BALI – DISCOVERING CANGGU

It is a coastal town in the southern part of Bali where ex-pats, surfers and Australians coexist with the local population. He has many roles because of that mixture of cultures.

ACCOMMODATION

If you travel to Bali, you will find that Indonesia offers all kinds of accommodation: private villas, guest houses, etc. Canggu is usually a villa or one of the recommended hotels: LIKE Uma Canggu, W Bali – Seminyak or The Haven Suites Bali Berawa.

ART VILLAGE

It is an idyllic place hidden between nature, a road and the sea, whose name means city of art. Consists of several cabins and is decorated with flowers, umbrellas and colour lanterns.

It is very famous because there are at least four daily yoga classes with excellent teachers. Also, it has a spa with treatments and massages. They reminded me of the ones at Niwa Boutique Hotel!

The pool area is spectacular, the water is turquoise, and you seem to be in the middle of the jungle since everything is decorated with a lot of nature, dark wood furniture and colour cushions.

GASTRONOMY

Bali cuisine invites you to travel and explore Indonesia in its entirety. Canggu has a mix of local and international cuisine due to many “ex-pats” and the healthy, gluten-free, sugar-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc. They are common.

LIFES CRATE

Trendy place decorated like a loft: wood, cement, etc., intended for breakfast or lunch. It has a clothing store, views of the rice fields and a wall full of photos of customers.

The menu follows current trends: bowls, toasts, plates, milkshakes, juices and coffees. Everything is tasty, including the coffee, as specialized baristas like a European speciality coffee shop.

MILU BY NOOK

A restaurant owned by Nook, another well-known one. It has several rooms and a terrace with views of the rice fields. Its decoration is lovely: wooden furniture, plants, huge paintings and dim lighting.

On the left is a Balinese chicken curry with rice and steamed vegetables. To the right is a Gado Gado, which is a steam multi-vegetable salad serve with crispy tempeh and homemade peanut sauce.

THE PLATE LEAF

It was a pretty cool restaurant with an open kitchen, terrace, and decoration as if it were under construction: cement and steel. As for the food, don’t expect luxury but local, cheap and very tasty food.

There are no plates, and the tradition is to eat on a large banana leaf as a plate. Nasi Campur – Sambal Shrimp- on the left – several bowls with rice, vegetables, shrimp, and hot sauce.

ACTIVITIES

If you travel to Bali and visit Canggu, you should know that it is a town “without sidewalks”. Also, there is horrible traffic, typical of some cities in Indonesia, so it is better to rent a motorcycle.

It would help if you went shopping. There is an exciting mix between the local stalls full of souvenirs and wrong clothes, with the ideal Formentera-type shops: hippy clothes, boho chic, yoga, surf, decoration, etc.

And also surfing, everyone surfs in Canggu! If that’s not your thing, take a walk along the immense black sand beach full of local beach bars, restaurants or trendy beach clubs.
