News Write for Us

News Write for Us – News is information about current events. It can be provided through a variety of means: word of mouth, print, postal systems, broadcast, electronic communication, or finished the testimony of observers and witnesses to events. News is sometimes called “hard news” to distinguish it from soft media.

Common topics for reporting include war, government, politics, education, health, environment, economics, business, fashion, entertainment and sports, as well as humorous or unusual events. Government announcements related to royal festivals, laws, taxes, public health and criminals have been called news since ancient times. Technological and social advances, driven largely by government communications and spy networks, have augmented the speed at which news can feast, as well as impacting its content. The type of news we know today is closely related to the newspaper.

Etymology

The English word “news” originated in the 14th century as a special use of the plural form “new”. In Middle English, the equivalent word was new, as were French novels and German news. Similar developments can be found in Slavic languages – such as Serbo-Croatian novot (nov, “new”), Czech and Slovak noviny (nov, “new”), Polish naunini, Bulgarian noviny and Russian novosti – and also in Celtic. languages: Welsh nuidion (from nuit) and Cornish Naughtoho (from nawyth).

Jessica Garretson Finch is accredited with coining the phrase “current affairs” while teaching at Barnard College in the 1890s.

News

As its name suggests, “news” generally refers to the provision of new information. The novelty of the news gives it a quality of uncertainty that differs from more careful study in history or other academic disciplines. Historians treat events as causally related manifestations of underlying processes, while news stories describe events in isolation and exclude conversation of the relationships between them.

A message clearly describes the world in the present or the immediate past, even if the most important aspects of a message happened in the past or are expected to happen in the future. To make a message, an action must have some “peg”, an event for the current moment. Likewise, news often refers to aspects of reality that seem unusual, deviant, or unusual. So, “dog bites man” is not new but “man bites dog” is a popular phrase.
